Abstract

The education system of the Mughal era constitutes a significant chapter in the medieval evolution of Indian history, profoundly influencing various facets of education, culture, language, literature, administration, and social life. Mughal rulers viewed education not only as a means to meet religious and administrative requirements but also as a vehicle for intellectual development. During this period, primary and higher education were systematically conducted through *Maktabs* and *Madrasas*, where subjects such as the Quran, Hadith, Arabic, Persian, logic, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and literature were taught. The elevation of Persian to the status of the official state language, in particular, established its widespread influence across the spheres of education and administration. The Mughal education system also strengthened the spirit of cultural synthesis within Indian culture. Liberal rulers like Akbar encouraged dialogue among diverse religions and cultures and fostered the exchange of knowledge by commissioning the translation of Sanskrit texts into Persian. This process lent a new identity to India's cultural heritage and enabled integrated development in the fields of literature, art, architecture, and philosophy. Although the primary objective of education was religious and administrative training, the system nonetheless made a remarkable contribution to the development of knowledge, morality, discipline, and social values.
