NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020 AND SOCIAL EQUITY: A STUDY IN THE CONTEXT OF RURAL AND URBAN SOCIETY

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a historic and transformative step in India's education system. The policy aims to make education inclusive, equitable, high-quality, and accessible. It places special emphasis on social equity, equal access to educational opportunities, and the educational empowerment of marginalized sections of society. In a vast and diverse country like India, significant disparities exist between rural and urban areas regarding the quality of education, resources, technological facilities, and opportunities.
This research paper presents a comparative study of the impact of NEP 2020 on rural and urban societies. The study analyzes aspects such as access to education, the availability of digital resources, mother-tongue-based instruction, vocational education, social justice, inclusive education, and the digital divide. The study reveals that while NEP 2020 is an effective initiative towards establishing social equity, its successful implementation requires addressing regional disparities, digital inequalities, and infrastructural challenges.
